PSA presents on average 75 stroke educational lectures annually and participates in about 30 health fairs. Through lectures, workshops, events, discussion groups, articles and media messages, PSA educates the public about stroke, stroke prevention, and stroke warning signs, emphasizing the critical need to take symptoms seriously and to seek immediate emergency treatment.
PSA reaches 18,000 people annually with our message about stroke. Stroke educational materials are currently available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese. We also offer bilingual (Spanish/English) lectures in the communities we serve.

Trained professional volunteers and staff lead monthly support groups that provide critical information, compassion and comfort. PSA support groups bring together those affected by stroke to share experiences as they make progress and gain confidence. The groups also provide opportunities to find encouragement and practical help in the different aspects of post-stroke recovery.
Each support group has a different characteristic. Some of them serve women or men who have had a stroke; some are educational while others are open discussions for stroke survivors and caregivers. The groups meet at different days, times and locations throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Click here to see a list of our current groups. To see PSA's most current newsletter click here.
This program brings trained stroke survivors back to the hospital to visit newly admitted stroke survivors. PSA volunteers provide a warm smile and an empathetic ear. They provide testimony to the possibilities of overcoming the emotional and physical impact of stroke. Equally important, volunteers share information about resources in the community that are available to rebuild lives after stroke. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Peer Visitor please contact PSA at support@psastroke.org or at (650) 565-8485.
